Daniel Bradshaw and Paul Bertuccini limited the Purple squad to four hits over six innings Wednesday as the Gold team posted 2-0 victory in Game 2 of the Purple-Gold World Series in the original Alex Box Stadium. The Purple-Gold World Series is a three-game intrasquad series that concludes LSU's six-week fall practice session. The Gold captured Game 1 of the series 2-1 on Tuesday. The third and final game of the series starts at 3:30 p.m. Thursday. The six-inning game is open to the public, and their is in no admission charge. Though trailing two games to none, the Purple team can still "win" the series if it defeats the Gold Thursday by at least four runs. Bradshaw, a sophomore right-hander, allowed three hits in four innings Wednesday, recording no walks and five strikeouts. Bertuccini, a junior right-hander, fired two shutout innings, allowing one hit and one walk. Purple starting pitcher Anthony Ranaudo, a sophomore right-hander, was charged with one run on three hits in four innings with three walks and four strikeouts. Freshman left-hander Chris Matulis worked the final two innings for the Purple, allowing one run on three hits with two walks and one strikeout. "I thought it was another good, competitive ball game," LSU coach Paul Mainieri said. "Bradshaw and Ranaudo were both outstanding, and they gave us a glimpse of what we will see from them this season. I'm really encouraged by Bradshaw's outing; it was his best performance of the fall. "Bertuccini gave us the type of effort we're accustomed to seeing from him, and I thought Matulis showed a lot of promise on the mound." |
