... The battle for Sanford (Fla.) Seminole wide receiver Andre Debose (6-foot, 180 pounds) will apparently come down to LSU and Florida, though ESPNU Southeast recruiting analyst J.C. Shurburtt says Debose could prove to be unpredictable with his ultimate choice. Debose is the nation's No. 29-ranked prospect and No. 4 wide receiver. Teammates Ray Ray Armstrong and Dyron Dye (both 6-4, 215) remain uncommitted but are firmly in the Miami camp, Shurburtt says. Armstrong is No. 18 on the ESPNU 150, while Dye is ranked No. 143. ... Wide receiver Marlon Brown (6-5, 205) of Memphis (Tenn.) Harding Academy has scheduled his official visit to LSU for Jan. 10. Brown, who has already been on officials to Georgia and Ohio State, is No. 17 on the ESPNU 150 and the No. 2 wide receiver in the country behind Bastrop's Rueben Randle (6-3, 195). ... LSU was supposed to get an official visit from Fayetteville (N.C.) Jack Britt offensive tackle Xavier Nixon (6-6, 263) for the Aug. 30 Appalachian State game, but Hurricane Gustav ruined those plans. Nixon was supposed to visit for the Georgia game Oct. 25 but didn't make it then either. Though he has been to LSU unofficially, one now wonders if the Tigers will ever get an official from the No. 51 player on the ESPNU 150. Shurburtt reports that Nixon is a heavy lean to Florida and that it would be a surprise for him not to wind up a Gator. Florida is also a frontrunner to land Columbus (Ga.) Carver linebacker Jarvis Jones (6-3, 215), No. 65 on the ESPNU 150, who recently put LSU on the back burner. ... Greenwood (S.C.) defensive end Sam Montgomery (6-4, 220), the No. 22 player on the ESPNU 150, is still expected to take official visits to LSU and Southern California, but North Carolina and South Carolina have emerged as frontrunners, Shurburtt says. ... Defensive lineman William Campbell (6-4, 320) from Detroit Cass Tech has begun his official visits, traveling to Alabama for last Saturday's Mississippi State game. ESPNU's Bill Kurelic says Campbell, a one-time Michigan commitment, will visit LSU, USC, Miami and Michigan before making his choice. ... Kurelic also said Trotwood (Ohio) Madison offensive tackle Chris Freeman (6-9, 320) is considering LSU, Florida, Tennessee and Michigan. ... LSU has joined a growing list of schools making offers to ESPNU Class of 2010 prospect Lamarcus Joyner (5-8, 166), a defensive back from Miami Southwest. His offers also include Miami, Florida, Florida State, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Rutgers and Maryland. Early money says FSU and Miami are the schools to beat for Joyner, who is on the ESPNU 2010 Watch List. |
